Weather Policy

In the event of inclement weather, KBSL will make every attempt to play games as scheduled, if it’s safe and reasonable to do so.

In the event games must be cancelled, you will be notified by email and app notification immediately after a decision is made. We will also post on our social media pages.

If you don’t hear from us, you can assume games are on as scheduled.

If games must be delayed or cancelled during play, your Umpires will communicate that to your Coach.

We want to avoid adding make up games to your calendar, but also make the safety of our Players our top priority, so decisions to cancel can be difficult to make.  KBSL Volunteers do our best to make the best decision we can for our Players and their families, but we realize that not everyone will agree with any decision we make. As always, we encourage you to do what is right for your Player.

Here’s a look at how we make a decision to delay or cancel games.

  • If there is active or predicted inclement weather, we will be closely and constantly monitoring advice and updates from NOAA and the National Weather Service.

  • Games will be cancelled individually, by time. That means if the 5:30 games are cancelled, the 7:30 games may not be cancelled.

  • We’ll make a decision as early as possible, but in some cases, we may not be able to make an informed decision until very close to game time.

 Policies:

  • If a tornado watch or warning, or a thunderstorm warning is in effect for our area within one hour of game time, or goes into effect during a game, all games will be cancelled.

  • If thunder and/or lightning is observed during games, we will call a 15 minute delay and ask players to vacate the field and bench area. This 15 minute delay will restart each time thunder or lightning is observed until either we can continue play or enough time has passed that games must be cancelled.

  • If it is raining at game time, with no thunder or lightning, we will play as long as it is safe to do so. If conditions become unsafe or unreasonable for play, we will either call a 15 minute delay or cancel the games.

  • If it has rained prior to game time, we will make every attempt to prepare the fields for safe play. KBSL has a very limited number of Volunteers to accomplish that- if it’s rained all day, please consider coming to the fields early to help prepare the fields so our teams can play.

Rescheduling:

  • Games that are cancelled prior to game time will be rescheduled on the next available day.

  • Games that are cancelled during play will be considered complete if the game has completed 4 innings (or 3 and a fraction innings if the home team is ahead.) If the game is not complete, it will be nullified and rescheduled.  The game will start over on its rescheduled day.
